A grandiose amusement park will be built in Tbilisi's Dendrological Park, with Bidzina Ivanishvili's family taking a significant share of the cost. This was announced by Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze in a video stream on the social network Facebook.
He said that back in 2017, when the project to revitalise the dendrological park was launched, the first step was to relocate the zoo to the area by the Tbilisi Sea.
According to him, the amusement park will be unparalleled not only in Georgia, but also in the whole region - it will become the largest amusement park in the region.
"We have a dendrological park of about 160 hectares near the Tbilisi Sea. Its unique recreational potential and biodiversity are attractive not only for local residents, but also for visitors from other parts of the city and tourists. The park is adjacent to the new zoo. Back in 2017, we promised the public that we would implement a new project - we will preserve the dendrological park and at the same time move the zoo from the city centre to this location," Kaladze said.
According to the mayor, the new zoo covers an area of approximately 50 hectares and is directly adjacent to the dendrological park. Once the zoo's move is complete, renovations and upgrades to the park itself will begin.
"The Tbilisi Sea has become a popular destination for visitors to both the zoo and the dendrological park. That is why we decided to build a grandiose amusement park of attractions on its territory, which will be unparalleled in the region. It will be the largest and most modern amusement park in the Caucasus," Kaladze added.
Experienced theme park experts will be involved in the planning of the park, taking inspiration from global projects such as Disneyland, Legoland and Universal Studios.
"Bidzina Ivanishvili's family and the Cartu Charitable Trust will underwrite a significant portion of the construction costs, as they have supported many other projects. I want to thank them for their contribution to our city. The park will be divided into several zones - children's, adrenaline, family, leisure, gastronomy and shopping. There will also be a festival centre. Special emphasis will be placed on greenery and safety," said the mayor.
The existing natural vegetation will be preserved, new planting of trees and plants will be added, modern infrastructure, underground networks, lighting and everything necessary for the functioning of the park will be built.
"People of all ages will be able to have fun and relax in the park. In addition to the attractions, various events and evenings will be organised. I am convinced that with its diversity and scope, the park will become an attractive place not only for Georgians, but also for visitors from neighboring countries and tourists from all over the world," Kaladze stressed.
In conclusion, he thanked the Ivanishvili family again and added that more interesting projects will be implemented in the coming years thanks to the support of financial institutions and the central government.
"Our goal is to make Tbilisi the greenest and most modern city that meets the needs of all generations - from leisure to entertainment to culture. I am convinced that soon we will see the shining eyes of many children who will become the main heroes of this place and create unforgettable memories," Mayor Kacha Kaladze concluded.
